BEAUTY IN SIMPLICITY
I usually don't get on a hobby horse like this, but for the past few months really, this has been on my mind, and I really felt led to share this, even if it's just to help out one person:
It seems as though a sizable portion of the body of Christ has a hard time understanding what being simple really looks like. That said, I actually 100% believe that, as members in the Kingdom of Christ, we are called to live a counter-cultural life of holiness and simplicity to demonstrate the power of Christ and to help save lives from the degradation of our sinful culture, especially in light of how Jesus is coming again & how He's coming back for a perfect, spotless bride:
II Corinthians 11:2-3 NKJV : "For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."
Contrary to what a lot of culture tries to tell us, being simple for Christ does not mean that we act foolish or gullible like a simpleton (that "ton" is key here). On the contrary, the Greek word for "simplicity" in this text (haplotēs) indicates that we are to have a sincere, pure, bountiful, and complete devotion towards Christ! If Christ is always consistent in who He is towards us, then why would He expect us to be any different with Him? So despite what even some in the Church suggest, in that being simple and innocent can't coincide with each other, I actually think Scripture shows us that living in the simplicity of Christ is where we find our innocence!
Plainly put, God makes things so simple while we as people make things very complicated! Whereas God says to know Me is to honor Me, man has constantly taken on the patterns described in Romans 1:21, "... although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God ... but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened." No wonder why this lack of simplicity with Christ is the reason why He can look at someone and say, "Depart from Me, I never knew you," (Matthew 7:23).
